Last few days and Layne's new trick!

We went to see Dr. Morris on Thursday for an RSV follow-up visit and he said he looks the best he has ever see him! He even said the quality of his cry was stronger! We see him again in a month for his 18 month(wow) check up and other stuff.

As of now Layne is 14lbs 8ozs!!!!!!!!! Can you believe it? I am so glad we got the NG tube put in!!
Here is his feeding pump!Last night a nurse came over to help us change the tube, which I will NOT do! Joshua did just fine with that so we can change it at any time on our own from now on! She also explained that in addition to respite(MDCP) there is another program called PCS that has no waiting list! It is where you choose a family member or friend to come instead of a nurse and that program pays them!!! I think we will be doing this instead!!

Update

Things have been going pretty good lately! Layne is feeling better now and is back to his normal self! Also if you remember we started a new seizure medicine called Keppra about 2 1/2 weeks ago and guess what...NO SEIZURES!!!!!!! He has been "seizure free" for about a week and a half now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Praise the Lord!!!

Also because of the NG tube Layne has been gaining 2 ounces per day! When we came home from the hospital he was 13lbs 12ozs and now he is 14lbs 2.5ozs!! YAY!!!! He isn't wanting to take anything by mouth yet, but that's ok. I tried giving him a baby food meal yesterday and he had about 4 bites and then started gagging and crying. He won't even drink his water! I am guessing it is because he is very full from the tube feedings.

Since he has the NG tube and feeding pump, we have a home health nurse. She will come by once a week unless otherwise needed. She told us that we should qualify for some respite hours too. And that amount should increase when Layne gets the G tube. Now the respite waiting list is about 6 years long but she said there is a nursing home waiver, where you go stay one night in a nursing home. Once you get out, you automatically can receive respite! You can get all the way up to 50 hrs but we would never want that! All I would want is a few hours in the day so I could shower and clean and not have to wait until Joshua gets home to do those things. I could actually fix my hair for once, haha!

Well that's about all the news I have right now! We have a check up with Dr. Morris on Thursday and I will update on that soon!

We are home!!!!!!!!

We finally got to come home last night! It is so great to be home again!!! We finally feel like we got some sleep! You know how it is in hospitals the nurses wake you up like a thousand times during the night to check stuff, so it was nice to sleep with no interuptions.

Layne will be fed through the NG tube for about 6 weeks before they put in the G button. The surgeons like to wait at least 6 weeks after they have had a cold or other illness before they do the surgery. So he is getting feeds 4x a day and gets a continuous feed throughout the night. He can still eat what he wants by mouth too. He will be able to eat baby food meals too if he wants, those would be like and added bonus to the formula. His formula is going to be 30 calories per ounce so he should gain weight in no time! He has lost some due to being sick so right now he is 13lbs 12.5ozs.

Don't have much time....

Hey, just a few quick minutes to update. We are at Children's with Layne. He was admitted to Brownwood hospital on Sunday night. We move to Children's on Wednesday night..in a jet(pictures later)!! Anyways mostly waiting on him to come off oxygen, he is have lots of troubles without it. He is being fed through and NG tube and will come home with it. Will update more when I can....doesn't look like we will be coming home very soon......

Just found out that if you go to the Children's website(www.childrens.com) you can email Layne! He is in room C9263-1!

RSV

Every preemie mom's nightmare....well Layne has it. He started coughing on Thursday and was coughing like crazy yesterday and got a fever so we decided to take him to the doctor. I totally didn't expect RSV because his nose wasn't stuffy or runny. But he was wheezing. So they did the test and it came back positive for RSV. So far he isn't too bad, he doesn't feel good and is coughing alot. He was breathing pretty fast this morning but we gave him a breathing treatment and that helped. He had a temp last night of 99.8 and 99.6 this morning so we have been giving him tylenol. We just have to watch him to make sure he is breathing ok and luckily his doctor is on call this weekend. He has to go back on Monday for them to check on him. Everyone please pray it doesn't get worse, it's early and can still get bad.

Back from Dallas with good news!!

We had a very busy day today. Layne's CT scan was moved to this morning at 6:30 am. He had to be sedated with anesthesia gases. We got to be in the room as he fell asleep and it was kind of sad. I felt like they were putting him to sleep forever, but it was only for a few minutes.

After they were done we had another appointment with Dr. Said(neurologist) and she had good news to tell us! Layne has not developed a new type of seizure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't thank God enough for this!!!!! She wants to add another seizure medication called Keppra. I hope and pray this knocks them out completely...I see good things in the future!!!!!!!!!

After that appointment we went and ate real quick in the hospital cafeteria then went on to his appointment with Dr. Seikaly(nephrologist). He also had good news...there are no kidney stones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They said either he could of passed it or never had one...my personal belief is that God took care of it!!!!!!!!!! We are so pleased with all the reports and give all the glory and thanks to God!!!
