Happy 4th!

Neurology Appointment=Good News!

Monday Layne had an appt with his neurologist. We learned that his EEG, while still having some abnormal spikes in the back right and left parts of his brain, was improved! The background pattern was normal! You can tell the difference in wake and sleep as well as other "normal" things. This is very encouraging news! He also had his 2nd MRI this month and there has been no change since his previous one when he was 8 months old!

We are going to start the Ketogenic diet wean in 2 weeks! This is exciting but as you can imagine scary at the same time! We are increasing his Keppra before we start the wean because he was on a very tiny dose for his weight. I believe we are weaning at a rate of .25 per week...so to my understanding I think it will be something like 5 or 6 months to finish, not positive on that though. We are also starting to add more formula to his day feeds and subtracting from his night feeds, with the goal being to eventually not have an overnight feed! That will be so much easier!!

We also got Layne a referral to see the dentist at Children's. He is getting most of his teeth now so I figured it's about time. Gotta keep that beautiful smile healthy!!!

Layne has also recently learned to say "mama"!! We are so thrilled! I need to post the video! He is improving all around. He even let Megan(with ECI) hold him and play with him for his entire 30 minute session...he doesn't let others hold him ever!!!

Little sister Lexi is doing good! She is now 7 weeks old and weighs almost 10lbs! I cannot believe babies grow so fast! Layne was only 12lbs on his 1st birthday! Layne still seems to enjoy having her around, except when she is eating and I cannot hold them both, he cries then:(

Summer

Well summer is here and that can only mean one thing...SWIMMING!! Yay! Layne is enjoying the pool again this year!

In other news he is doing well. He is still seizure free! He is still doing good eating his meals. He had an MRI of his brain today and we have an appointment with the neurologist on the 21st. He also has an appt on the 7th with the nephrologist.

He will soon be getting some wrist splints and also some AFOs.

He is trying hard to say mama! So I can only hope this means he is going to keep expanding his vocabulary!

He is enjoying having his little sister around, hopefully it will stay that way!

Layne is a big brother!!!!!

Layne's little sister, Lexi, made her entrance into this world last Wednesday!! She was 6lbs 9ozs! Everything went as smoothly as possible and we are so glad she is here! Layne seems to enjoy having her around!

Long Time, no Update!

It's way past time for an update, I know, but we have been so busy lately! I have had to go for weekly progesterone injections since 20 weeks, but this week (week 34) is my last one! So between that, regular doctor appointments, and therapies we are very busy! Plus getting ready for little sister Lexi!

Layne has been doing pretty well lately. He is over a year seizure free now! He will be able to wean off the ketogenic diet within the next year so that is very exciting! His neurologist is also comfortable with him weaning from Keppra soon as well! He was due for an MRI a couple weeks ago but.....

We wrecked our van that morning. So it's in the process of getting fixed. It has been tough not having a vehicle for the last couple of weeks! Thankfully everyone is ok though!

Layne is sure glad it's spring because he loves to spend time outside! We got him this swing and hung it from a tree branch and he loves it! He is learning to enjoy playing with toys more and has also learned a few new sounds, including what sounds like "da-da"! It's unknown whether or not he will ever actually talk but I suppose this is a step in the right direction!

I hope he is ready to become a big brother, because in just over a month, little sister will be here! I know they will love each other so much! I do wish he could understand what was going on though, maybe he does but is unable to express it.

An Update!

So I admit, I've been slacking in the blog department. But that's a good thing, right? I think so because usually I was blogging when something was wrong with Layne, with him being sick or whatever the problem was. And that hasn't been happening lately so that is AWESOME!

So what's been going on? We found out on December 10th that Layne will be having a little sister! That is very exciting, a little girl will be perfect for Layne because she will probably want to play "mommy" and help me take care of him! I think that is good because she will bond with him in that way.

So how is Layne doing? He is doing well! He has managed to stay well so far this winter and I certainly hope it stays that way! We are approaching an ENTIRE YEAR of SEIZURE FREEDOM this February! That is such an awesome miracle! He is now completely weaned off of phenobarb so that is great too! He continues to improve with his vision and also with using his hands. He likes to touch anything I have in my hands and he always grabs for my plate, cup, etc! He likes to play with toys too, something I never expected to happen! He still needs lots of help playing and all of that but just the fact that he is interested is amazing to me!

We recently increased his day and night feeds and he is now allowed to have 2-3 "meals" a day! So he should be gaining more weight in no time! Last time I weighed him he was 18lbs 5ozs.

To prepare Layne for the baby coming, I have really been trying to put him down a lot more. He is getting to where he will swing for a good amount of time so that is great! He will also play in his high chair for a little bit after meals. Usually long enough for me to vacuum or do dishes or something! In the apartment complex we live in there are no W/D hookups so I have to go down to the laundry room. So I have tried to take him in his wheelchair and do a little bit of laundry, it seems to work out well. I have a laundry basket with wheels now so that is convenient!

I guess that's really all to update on for now! He sees his GI doctor on the 25th and then we see the Neurologist on March 1st.
